Biking - With miles of bike trails that encircle the lake, The National Forest provides miles and miles of biking trails, including abandoned logging roads, trails and some backcountry roads, offering a good cross-section of terrain and topography.

The Bizz Johnson Trail - This 25 mile trail was once the roadbed of Southern Pacific's 130 mile Fernley and Lassen Branch Railway, and has been converted to a riding and hiking trail. Echoes of the old steam engines pulling their loads of logs and lumber past logging camps and depots will be your companions as you explore the rich history along the trail. You can pick up an Interpretive Trail Guide and Map at the Lassen National Forest.

The basin also hosts one of the largest bike events in the north state called the MILE HIGH CENTURY BIKE RIDE. Pick up a free copy of the Plumas County Mountain Bike Guide, which details some of the area's best national forest routes and other trails. The guide is available (800) 326-2247.

Lassen Park - For a full list of activities, schedule, and general park information, please visit Lassen Park Website or call (530) 595-4444. The park is generally open Spring through October, with the best visiting times June through October and stays open all Winter (snoeshoeing and x-skiing) although roads may be closed. Pacific Crest Trail - Zigzagging its way from Mexico to Canada through California, Oregon and Washington the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) boasts the greatest elevation changes of any of America's National Scenic Trails, allowing it to pass through six out of seven of North America's ecozones including high and low desert, old-growth forest and artic-alpine country.

The Trail crosses Highway 89 and traverses Lassen Volcanic National Park, overseen by Lassen Peak (elev. 10,457'). North of the park the PCT follows the mostly waterless Hat Creek Rim toward majestic Mt. Shasta, which dominates the north-state skyline.

Golf - With 10 courses in the area, golf is prevalent, popular and easy to come by in Plumas County. Most golfers have no problem walking on, but tee times can be harder to come by in the peak summer months, so call ahead.

Offroading - Attention all Terrain/Sport utility vehicle owners - Plumas County has plenty of well-maintained, unpaved forest service roads that lead to lakes, lookouts and picnic sites. The roads access some 1.2 million acres of public land.

If you're looking for more rugged off-highway adventure, head for one of the 4x4 routes, staging areas or campgrounds developed specifically for off-highway vehicles.

A new Summer OHV map, detailing 83 routes and 2,600 miles within the Plumas National Forest, is now available at the Chamber office.
